Protect the vehicle from further damage
Do not operate the vehicle as it could result in further damage
Pull your vehicle off the road and shut off the engine when any of the lights/gauges indicate a problem
Use your Roadside Assistance benefit
Present your Vehicle Service Contract to the repair facility
Ask the repair facility to contact American Auto Shield prior to proceeding with repairs

If you had emergency auto repairs performed outside normal business hours and did not receive prior authorization:

Contact American Auto Shield no later than the 1st business day after emergency repairs are performed.

Emergency repairs must meet the following criteria:

  • The need for repair is immediate and the administrator’s office is closed
  • The mechanical breakdown or failure must prevent you from safely operating your vehicle
  • The mechanical breakdown or failure must be covered by your contract
  • The total cost of the repair and/or replacement must not exceed $250

Coverage for towing service if your vehicle cannot be started or driven

Coverage for service to change an inflated spare if your vehicle has a flat or damaged tire

Coverage for dispatch to provide locksmith or emergency service if you misplace, break, or accidentally lock your keys in your vehicle

Coverage for battery recharging services if the battery for your vehicle fails

Coverage for a service vehicle to deliver oil, fuel, or water in case it is necessary for the operation of your vehicle. You are responsible for the cost of the oil and fuel. In the event that local state regulations prohibit the delivery of flammable materials (e.g., gas), you may have your vehicle towed to the nearest gas station.

Coverage for winching services, provided your vehicle is within 100 feet of a public road (excludes off-road driving)

Roadside services may not be available in all states and may vary by state. Please refer to your actual contract for specific coverage limits and conditions.

Rental Car & Trip Interruption

Your Vehicle Service Contract provides rental car reimbursement:

  • As soon as the repair estimate is received and coverage is determined
  • If your vehicle becomes inoperable and must remain at the repair facility as a result of an authorized mechanical breakdown or failure authorized for four (4) or more hours of labor

You must have an authorized and coverable claim to receive rental car reimbursement.

Your Vehicle Service Contract provides rental car coverage, when applicable, from any licensed vehicle rental company of your choice. Many repair facilities have loaner cars or have a rental facility on-site. However, if your repair facility does not provide rental cars, contact your local rental car company and retain your receipt.

Your Vehicle Service Contract provides motel/restaurant expense coverage:

  • As soon as the repair estimate is received and coverage is determined
  • If your vehicle becomes inoperable more than 100 miles from your home and must remain at the repair facility overnight as a result of an authorized mechanical breakdown or failure

You must have an authorized and coverable claim to receive trip interruption reimbursement.

You must have an authorized and coverable claim to receive rental car or trip interruption reimbursement. Please read the actual contract documents for important details on coverage, limits, conditions and terms.
